Default Monk Gear

i've just recently started playing GW again and i decided to make a monk. i usually run a WoH or HB build, and i hear a lot of people saying i should get a 40/40 set. is there a better weapon set than 40/40 or should i just go with that? and how much would a 40/40 set cost? thanks.

If you craft it, 10k + mats at either Leviathan Pits or Vasburg Armory.

If you want the cheap way, check collectors, I'm pretty sure they offer 40/40. Or at least half of it, if not the whole set :P. You can also get the 40/40s if you have two Droknar's Keys already on hand.

If you want to prettify your character, though, that really depends on what wand and focus you want to use. :P

For me, I use a 40/40 healing set, a 40/20/20 Prot staff (read: 20% enchant, 20% general HSR, 40% Prot HCT), your stereotypical armor +10 vs. __________ shields, a caster spear, a spear with a crippling and fort mod on it, and a +30 energy/-2 e-regen set for emergencies (god forbid you ever have to use it). I mostly PvE, so these are just PvE opinions, in PvP you're going to undoubtedly want to run different weap sets.

Should add a little explanation:

The reason for a 40/40 healing set and not a prot set is quite simple: when you're forced to heal, you usually need to cast quickly, the HCT helps that. All prots are enchants, so the enchanting mod on the staff ensures this. You can also use a caster spear with an offhand, creating a similar effect. These are ideally for a WoH hybrid build, you sit in either your spear/shield or spear/focus set, switching to your prot staff to cast prots and to your healing set to cast heals.

Finally, you *may* want to get an energy hiding set, one where you have two inscriptions, one on your martial weapon ("Brawn over Brains", damage +50%, energy -5), and one on your shield ("Ignorance is Bliss", armor +5, energy -5), that reduce your overall energy. This is used in cases where you know you're going to be encountering plenty of energy-denial. Personally, I don't bother with this set, as it is usually overkill.

20/20 Healing Focus: Caykitt's Focus also available from 3 collectors listed on that same link
20/20 Healing Wand: Dunshek's Purifier

40/20/20 Prot Staff: You'll have to make this one yourself. Craft it from one of these weaponsmiths and then upgrade it.
